About Ohlala Jewelry

Hi, my name is Esther and I love making unique handcrafted jewelry. I used to practice Maritime Law in Mumbai, but I gave up my practice when I moved to a smaller city. Although what I do now, is different from what I did then, I am enjoying every wonderful second of my life. It's great to wake up each morning and not quite know which direction the creative process will take me. I start each piece by looking at colors and deciding on a palette. Each palette includes beads of different shapes and sizes to add visual appeal to the piece. I then use these tiny elements to the larger complex shapes of the finished piece. What I love about this technique is the challenge of creating shapes and forms that need to be aesthetically pleasing yet mathematically accurate. The design phase is challenging and the most exciting. I often have a hundred ideas in my mind at a time so filtering out the impractical and allowing those that would result in a perfect piece is an amazing albeit difficult journey. To achieve a master could take hours or days depending on the “flow of creativity”. Reproduction is an easier process requiring 8 to 12 hours a piece.
