“Ancient Relics” Pen and Pencil Set – This awesome handcrafted wood pen and pencil set features an antique look under a beautiful high gloss coat and gold setting. ;D

If it weren’t for the durable high gloss cyanoacrylate coat and beautiful gold plate setting, this wood pen and pencil set could have been dug up from an ancient archeological site. The shimmering platinum-blonde poplar wood features streaks and striations of black, brown and even a slight green patina.

The four pieces that comprise this wood pen and pencil set were cut from a single piece of poplar wood. They were shaped and sanded by hand on a lathe up to 10k grit. Then the four-step staining process brought out their antique look. First, a coat of 100% pure tung oil brought out he subtle poplar grain. Then successive treatments with black and brown stains added centuries to their look. They were then soaked in a green vinegar dye, giving them s slight patina. At each step in this staining process the pens were allowed to “set” overnight before applying the next stain.

Finally, the wood was given its durable high gloss cyanoacrylate coat, buffed to a high shine and set in the matching 24k gold plate setting with a glossy black rectangle on the clip. The wood grain was re-aligned upon assembly to keep the wood’s integrity. The pen opens with a twist and writes in ballpoint black ink. The pencil uses a Paker style click mechanism for its .7mm lead. Ink and lead refills are available in any office supply store, ensuring this pen and pencil set will be used and loved for many years.
