Believe it or not, this lovely wood started as a block of pure white holly. I stabilized it in deep blue liquid acrylic and baked it to set the dye. As you can see, subtle flecks of the original creamy white color of the holly withstood the dye, adding to the pen’s beauty.
Turned by hand on a lathe, I shaped the straight form and sanded the wood up to 10k grit for maximum shimmer, then gave it a thin coat of 100% pure tung oil
to bring out the subtle grain. After setting overnight, it received 9 layers of durable cyanoacrylate buffed to a textured gloss shine.
I chose a bright chrome magnetic setting for this pen. The cap fits over the nib or the tail, snapping into place by its strong magnets. This pen writes smoothly in premium rollerball black ink. Refills are available in any office supply store, ensuring this pen will be used and loved for many years.
This writing instrument is very comfortable in the
hand. It’s about a little longer than your average pen but is slightly more substantial to hold. It’s really a joy to use.
