This beautiful wine bottle stopper was handcrafted from osage orange wood. It will make a wonderful accent to your bar or countertop.
The pictures really don’t do this wood justice. What you can’t see is the gorgeous flame brought out in the shimmering grain as you rotate the wood in the light. It features streaks and striations as well as a beautiful dark knot.
This osage orange wine bottle stopper was shaped and sanded up to 800 grit by hand on a lathe. It then received a generous coat of 100% pure tung oil and three coats of durable polyacrylic.
Osage orange is a beautiful orange wood native to the United States. It really has a fascinating history if you take a moment to read it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maclura_pomifera). It takes its name from the Osage Nation and was prized among Native Americans for bows and clubs. It’s also known under a number of other names, most commonly bois d’arc.
