This is a glass sushi tray adorned with honu (Hawaiian sea turtles) in the petroglyph style of Hawaii’s First Peoples. The petroglyphs are quite mysterious, really, there are sites of them scattered all across the Hawaiian islands, but nothing is known about the people who carved them or why or what they meant to the artists.
The tray is kiln-fired glass. The turtles are handmade glass beads and glassline paint.
I’ve actually been going a bit honu crazy lately – I have other dishes and pendants featuring them, and I’m working on some mezuzah cases all with the same motif.
very pretty. tweeted.
