The area around La Petite Maison is covered in woodland. Some of the trees are pines, planted in plantations, but most are mixed native species.

Inspired by the foliage of the trees, this maple leaf pendant was cut from flat silver sheet. The surface was textured with a ball hammer, then the whole thing was oxidised until it turned a dark slate grey colour. I then polished the surface, exposing the silver on the back of leaf, and the raised areas of the front, leaving the oxidisation only in the indentations. This emphasises the texture, and gives the piece an antique feel.

The stalk was then turned over, so that it forms a loop, from which the leaf hangs on a fine 46cm (18 inch) silver chain with a handmade silver clasp. The maple leaf itself is approx 2.3cm (0.9 inches) by 2.2cm (0.8 inches).
