Featured Artist: April of Brooklyn Bead Goddess

I admit that I just might have an addiction to handmade beads….and have NO desire to fix this problem!  Artists that can take a rod of glass and melt it in a flame to create amazing beads have always fascinated me; as a result, I have a rather large collection of lampworked beads that will one day be incorporated into my own work.  Until that magic day arrives, however, I will just have to be content with sighing over their beauty all on their own.

One of my favorite artists is a Brooklyn, New York native who’s creative use of color make her beads absolutely stand out from the crowd.  April began her glass obsession years ago while watching the glass artists on Coney Island and being enthralled by the delicate sculptures they were able to create.  As time went on, she has honed her own skills  and added her own flair for design and color to her work.

April’s beads are bright and happy and obviously come from the heart of an artist in the truest sense of the word.  She admits on her blog that she rarely has a plan when she sits down to work, but instead “goes with the flow” and allows the colors and day guide her creations.  Her work reflect the vibrancy of the city that she loves and always make a statement.

Are you ready to see what a talented New York native can create with glass rods, a flame and a ton of creative soul?  Well, April’s creations are easy to find in her shop on HandmadeArtists as well as her own website which is an adventure in color!  You can follow her on facebook and see what she is up to as well as her blog.  Be warned, however, once you behold a true work of art in a handmade lampwork bead, nothing else will ever again measure up.

  1. What a fabulous post for a fabulous artist. I do love her work and the scope of the variance means there is something for everyone. Terrific feature. I find my self coveting several of her pieces.

  2. April is one of my favorite Craft-artists. As you noticed the photos (from her etsy shop) are just gorgeous. I’m really happy to see some recognition of her work here.
    Kimberly Kudos for the post
