Facebook has always been thought of for many as a security risk. Some folks don’t even do Facebook for that very reason. As a Social Media Marketer, I network on Facebook more than any other site available! Facebook security has always been in question, especially with the third party hacks with some apps stealing your information when you “allow” them.

Facebook is going in a more family oriented direction and has implemented some greater security features to allow you to enjoy the third party apps without the risk of your account being hacked.

A code will be asked for when you log into Facebook with a different device for added security. This code also allows for apps to request that code when you switch to the “http” from “https://…” security. This way..when you finish with your app, it automatically re-establishes the “https://..” security url. You don’t have to go into your account settings anymore or log out..and log in again to reset it.

Even more added security is two more resources Facebook has updated.  There is a Resource for Families where teachers, parents and teens can find helpful information and videos.   The new Social Reporting Tools for Facebook  allows users to notify people in their community as well as Facebook if they see something unsafe.  This was implemented with a direction to help others know what to do in crisis and get help when they need it.  Facebook says that they had consulted Social Psychologists in this matter.  Events that happen online usually reflect what is happening offline in real time.

Facebook has been working overtime to make our accounts more secure and family friendly than ever before.  I think they finally heard us.
