This barrette is cut from a gourd shard and is embroidered with pink flowers! The surface of the gourd shard has some natural markings on it that makes an interesting background for the embroidery.

I sealed the surface of the gourd with a light coating of acrylic before I embroidered the design on it. This gives a very soft sheen to the gourd surface. After the embroidery was complete I sealed the back of the barrette with epoxy.

This gourd barrette is nearly 4 inches long by about 2 inches wide. It would make a nice gift for someone who likes to wear barrettes in their hair!
