Egghead Penguin Ceramic Pot on Handmade Artists’ Shop.
The eggheads are completely hand-formed by me using a method known as ‘pinching’. Two pots are pinched from buff clay, then joined together and shaped and smoothed till the join no longer shows. I ‘paddle’ them into shape and then leave them to firm up, before cutting the lid direct from the closed pot, ensuring a perfect fit. I then work on the inside of the pot, smoothing off the join area and smoothing out most of the marks left from forming. Please note that this IS a hand made piece and some dents or finger shapes may still be visible on the inside. This is part of the beauty of handmade ceramic; to have a piece of the artist within the pot.
The raw clay pot is left to dry completely for up to a week, and then fired to 1050 degrees Celcius to transform the raw clay to ceramic form. At this point, the egg is glazed internally with a food-safe gloss glaze and given it’s exterior glaze coat, then fired again to mature the clay and fuse the glaze to the pot.
All glazes used internally are food safe. As with all ceramic items, to preserve the appearance of the pot, it is recommended that you wash separately by hand.
Please convo me to check how many of each internal finish is available. If you require a finish that is out of stock, I am currently still able to take pre-orders which will deliver before Xmas.
