This is a statement piece!
This desk caddy is both multifunctional and beautiful. Carved from natural driftwood gathered from the shores of the Potomac River at Quantico, Virginia, and professionally treated and finished, this beautiful work of nature’s art will serve its owner well in form and function.
The primary feature is its reading stand for iPad, Kindle Fire, Kindle Paperwhite, small tablet, or other electronic device (device not included). The slot is 9 1/2 inches in length, able to accommodate any model iPad in horizontal mode as well as similar devices (see note on width/thickness below).
It also features a smartphone stand wide enough to accommodate the large Galaxy 5 in a case or smaller phone. Four holes in varying diameters will keep your favorite pens and pencils standing, while a horizontal rest 7 inches long will hold the writing instrument you use most often. A rectangular hole behind the pen holes will house your scissors or favorite letter opener.
A wide slot at an angle will keep letters and mail from cluttering your desk (used for the wallet in the photo above). And two shallow cups are suitable for paperclips or pocket change. A very subtle carving to the branch in the back allows your keys to hang there.
This work of art was hand-carved and crafted from natural driftwood. I removed some of the bottom to make it level and added gray felt padding to protect your desk surface. I carved the various features by hand, then sanded the entire piece up to 800 grit. It then received a dark stain and was sanded again to give it a stressed look. Two coats of polyurethane finished this piece, giving it a satin gloss while protecting the wood. It features several cracks and wormholes highlighted by the stain (while remaining quite sturdy), accentuating its natural beauty
It’s perfect for hands-free facetiming or skyping, reading, playing games and keeping your device upright on your desk or table while organizing your accessories. It’s a beautiful piece of nature for your desk or table. Driftwood is loved by many for its natural worn beauty, and this piece is no exception.
It was designed specifically for the iPad, but will firmly accommodate a Kindle Fire (not a Kindle Fire HD) and has been tested for both the iPad and Kindle Fire. The width of the slot dictates which devices will fit, so be sure to check the stats below and measure the thickness of your device (or check its stats online) before ordering to ensure it fits. If your device is thicker than 7/16 inches (1.1 cm), it will not rest securely in the slot. I cut the electronic device slot at about 10 degrees, sure to display your Kindle Fire, iPad or other device at just the right angle for viewing.
The slot is 3/8 inch deep in the front where the lip holds your device in place. At that depth it covers none of the iPad or Kindle Fire screen. The slot is about 1 inch deep in the back at its highest point, giving plenty of support to your device.
