This necklace is made of beads in bold patterns in black, brown, burnt orange and white hand sculpted polymer clay beads and pendant with rich orange amber resin, black lava rock and white bone accent beads. The metal bead caps, the toggle fastener and the bail are copper.
My picture panel beads and pendant are dense and sturdy, having been oven fired for more than an hour then dunked in cold water to cool thoroughly. I tumbled them for many hours in a regular lapidary tumbler with smooth river rocks and agate beads in a bit of water. They came out smooth and glowing. I added to the glow by finishing the beads and pendant with a brisk buffing after applying jeweler’s wax. The density and glow of the clay make it feel like softly polished stone.
I chose a variety of shapes and sizes among the beads in the batch I had made. I graduated the sizes and then filled in the necklace design with the rusty amber resin beads, the white bone and the lava rock beads between the various shapes and sizes of the polymer clay beads. Flat irregular oval beads formed in panels like the pendant, rounded bicone and hand rolled round beads made from the same colors of clay that I used in the pendant.
This necklace is earthy and richly colored. It will distinguish dark or light garments. It is definitely one of a kind and will bring many compliments to the wearer.
