Fiery Mahogany Obsidian just seems to smolder in this blue copper patina necklace!
The rich, dark BRICK RED and black volcanic glass center stone is highly polished and suspended from a hand hammered ‘Pomegranate’ or Pineapple frame in pure super heavy weight (12 gauge) copper that has been carefully hand shaped with small hand tools, patience and time. I do not use any ‘jigs’ or patterns. I made this with automotive hand dolly and hammer, my jewelers’ pliers and ‘eyeballing’ it. All on my lap , not on a fancy work bench.
A nearly perfect Snowflake Obsidian Roundel is nestled in the weaving and a strand of ‘tin cup’ style 10mm hand matched sets of Mahogany Obsidian and copper rolo chain with a hand hammered and wrapped clasp finish up the piece!
On the strand, each bead is hand safety wrapped on 20 gauge pure copper wire and attached to a link of soldered link copper rolo chain with 18 gauge custom made jump rings.
The Clasp is my signature Hammered Spiral and Wrapped Bead Loop in 16 gauge wire.
The entire piece was then salt washed, ran through a wash of vinegar and Dawn detergent then rinsed, dried and heated then into a patina bath. The fabulous blue color is etched into the metal and I use a mild abrasive to remove any excess and wash it again several times . It is not sealed.
This particular piece is TOUGH really really tough but Obsidian is volcanic Glass, not stone so it will shatter if dropped onto rocks or concrete.. so heads UP on that!
