My handcrafted bracelet of bronze, copper colored polymer clay, antiqued brass charm spacers, a convenient, sturdy lobster claw fastener and 16 banded brown chalcedony beads are all held together with non-tarnish enameled copper wires and nylon coated heavy duty stainless steel beading wire.

Now that you know the materials involved, I will describe how I designed and made it, piece by piece.

This unique bracelet is an example of mixed media jewelry art. After I formed the design in my imagination, I measured my piece of sheet bronze, got out my metal snips and cut it from the sheet, then punched holes for the connecting wire and rounded the corners. With my wet-dry sanding pad, I brushed the front part of the bronze in a hatch mark pattern. I used a coarser sandpaper to smooth all the metal edges, the punched holes and the corners.

I then worked on my polymer clay embossed strip. I chose to use my old India chasing template to raise the intricate symbols across the face of the copper metallic polymer clay strip that I had formed to harmonize with the shape of the bronze plaque. Then I placed it on the bronze plaque which I had curved gently to fit a human wrist and oven baked the clay for more than an hour. Polymer clay does not adhere to metal without an adhesive, so I was using the bronze strip as a form to hold the clay to the correct curvature. When the polymer clay was cooled, I buffed it and hand painted the background of the polymer clay strip with dark bronze acrylic enamel paint and then buffed the raised symbols with gold leaf wax to match the golden bronze strip on my charm bracelet. At that point it was time to apply a strong jeweler’s adhesive to the back of the clay strip and clamp it to the bronze strip for an overnight joining of the two jewelry materials.

In the meantime, I began to choose the most harmonious of my banded brown chalcedony beads and wire wrap them to loop into the antiqued brass charm spacers that I had threaded onto the strong nylon coated stainless steel wire that was attached to the secure wire wrapped loop on each end of the brushed bronze strip.

With these tasks accomplished, I attached the lobster claw clasp and ring and suddenly my bronze metal, copper wire, antiqued brass, brown chalcedony and polymer clay design was complete.
