Ceramic Bowl Riddled With Lug Nuts

This Stoneware wheel thrown bowl was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. It has two different ash glazes, a rivulet wood ash on the exterior and a more subtle faux ash glaze on the interior. I made a press mold of a lug nut out of plaster. I would then take a little ball of clay and press it in the mold. I took a loop tool and carved out excess clay to keep the weight of the overall piece down. A heat gun was then applied to the mold for a moment to hasten the drying. The casting was then popped out and then scored and slipped and fastened to an area on the bowl that was scored and ready to receive it. I arranged the hollowed out nuts, starting in the center, one at a time, until I reached the rim of the bowl. This process took me a month at about 4 hours a day and 6 days a week. It is a one-of-a-kind. It measures 16″ x 7.5″. Click on each for a larger image. This bowl is priced at $2500.00.DSC00729
