Outdoorsy – colorful gourd bowl covered with autumn leaves!

I made this bowl from a bottle gourd that I grew in my garden in Ohio. Autumn can be a riot of color in Ohio, and I wanted to preserve a little piece of this colorful season to enjoy all year long.

I collected and dried colorful leaves that fell from the trees and specially selected a gourd that would show them off. The leaves were attached to the gourd, painted to protect them, and colored with bright autumn leaf colors. You can see and feel the texture of the leaves on the bowl. The surface is protected with a satin finish to give the entire bowl a soft sheen. You can see and feel the texture of the leaves through the paint.

This gourd bowl is 6 inches tall and 7 inches across. It weighs just over eight ounces. This bowl is truly eco friendly because gourds and leaves are renewable resources!
