Sterling silver double wing butterfly ring with pink ruby on Handmade Artists’ Shop.

This is an original handmade double winged sterling silver butterfly ring adorned with a beautiful lab grown ruby as a central focal point. The wings were sawed as pairs from 18 gauge sterling silver with a jewelry saw and the cut outs were created by punching pilot holes in the silver, feeding a blade through the holes, and sawing out the intricate cut outs. To add dimension, curvature, and give the effect of a perched butterfly, the wings were dapped and hammered on a steel forming block. The sterling silver ring shank was formed from 16 gauge sterling silver flat wire, cold worked into a round form, welded together at the ends, and hammered over a steel ring mandrel to produce the perfect ring. Construction of the ring was completed by soldering the ring shank, double wings, and sterling silver stone setting together with an acetylene torch. A subtle patina was applied to the sterling silver for rich deep tones of silver and the ring was finished with a buffing wheel for a satin polish. The final step was setting the pink ruby in the bezel cup.
