9MM Bullet Casing Beauties IRELAND MEMORIES

Several years ago, I had an opportunity to visit Ireland while my husband did some training there. We got to stay for 2 amazing weeks. I was never bored even when he worked and I was by myself. We were near Dublin so catching the bus was easy to do. On our travels we got to visit NewGrange and see all the beautiful carvings on the rocks. I didn’t intentionally make these earrings this way, it just came out looking like the designs I saw there. It is a trip I will always remember and cherish. There is a pretty light brown Swarovski bicone in the ear wire, then a really pretty turquoise bead on the top. The casing has lots of swirls etched and a green and brown patina to add to its beauty. An ostrich egg shell bead is sits just above another turquoise bead, a metal separator, another brown Swarovski bicone all held together with an enameled head pin.
The casings are hand drawn and etched in this new etching solution I learned to make. I find that it etches much better than the stuff you can buy at Radio Shack… Once they are etched, I put them into liver of sulfur for that nice darkend brass. Then they are sanded and recolored and sanded again and finally sealed with Renaisaunce Wax. I love the stuff. I think it makes the colors come out much richer than in my past creations. The earrings look very much as you see here, they are so pretty!
Earwires are made of copper and are twisted to add strength. Copper wire is quite soft so it tends to bend easier. After the wire is twisted, I then shape it and hammer it for added strength. I add an ear wire
2 ½ inches long including earwire
