This is a handcrafted live-edge wood reading stand for Kindle Fire, Kindle Paperwhite, iPad, small tablet, smartphone or other electronic device (not included). It was handcrafted from a tree felled at Quantico, Virginia.
This is a one of a kind item and you will receive the one pictured.
It’s perfect for hands-free facetiming or skyping, reading, playing games and keeping your device upright and facing you. The top and facing edge were treated with an orange and bee’s wax finish to bring out the grain and beautiful dark spalting. It features two slots to let devices rest simultaneously. It’s a beautiful piece of nature for your desk or table.
It was designed specifically for an iPad in a thin case, but will firmly accommodate Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Fire and is shown with a cased iPad and cased Galaxy S5. The width of the slot dictates which devices will fit, so be sure to check the stats below and measure the thickness of your device in its case (or check its stats online) before ordering to ensure it fits.
It features the wood’s live edge, bark removed, on much of the facing edge with a straight edge on the rear side and another on the front. The top and front were sanded to 600 grit, making them silky smooth to the touch. The live edges remain rustically rough and untreated. The bottom was sanded to 220 grit, keeping a natural feel. Portions sanded to 600 grit received an oil and beeswax finish which brought out the beautiful dark spalting, visible in a photograph above where you can compare it with the untreated slot.
I cut the electronic device slot at about 15 degrees, sure to display your Kindle or iPad or other device at just the right angle. The piece rests flat on any flat surface and your device stays level in either portrait or landscape mode.
You can charge your device in the stand by using recharge ports in either slot, large enough for most charger cords and tested for the iPad charger. Cord grooves were cut into the bottom with a gentle S-curve to snugly hide the cord while recharging. The cord grooves are cut in a T shape, keeping your cords tucked up into the body of the stand. The slots are 7/16 inch deep in the front where the lip holds your device in place. At that depth it covers none of the iPad or Kindle screens. The slots gives plenty of support to your device.
Measurements are approximate due to unusual shape:
Length: 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm)
Width: 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm)
Height: 1 inch (2.5 cm) at highest point
Front Slot: 9/16 inch (1.42 cm) wide by 7/16 (1.11 cm) inch deep at a 15 degree angle
Rear Slot: 5/8 inch (1.58 cm) wide by 7/16 (1.11 cm) inch deep at a 15 degree angle
