Featured Artist Tuck Me In Blankets

Many people remember having a special blanket as a child and some, like me, even have that special treasure tucked away as an adult for no reason other than the comfort and memories it holds.  That piece of childhood could have been knitted or crochet or quilted but it was not until recently that I’ve seen these childhood friends created in fleece!

Tara Tucker is the owner, designer and creative superpower behind Tuck Me In Blankets.  She understands the importance of the security a blanket brings to a child and she works hard to put tons of love into each piece and enjoys the feeling of connection she feels to her customers as they connect on Facebook to make each blanket unique.

Tara was always happiest creating and loved to make treasures for others.  When she is not creating, Tara loves to spend time with her boyfriend, Josh, and her amazing, in he words, dog Morgan.  She stays grounded  by visiting with family and dreaming up new creations for future projects.

Tuck Me In Blankets is a newcomer to selling handmade and is a product of necessity (which is, after all, a huge motivator!) when she found herself out of a job and in need of money. Tara began with making stuffed animals when her friend suggested she look into making blankets.  After some experimenting,Tara hit on the magic formula of adorable, well made, affordable and usable!    She hit upon this magical formula when she discovered the versatility of fleece!  Basically,Tara found that if she could imagine it she could make it come to life.

Tara has found great rewards in meeting many customers from around the world and knowing she is making a product someone will love.  She has also found some of the pitfalls of doing business in that customers don’t always follow through with an order or they will balk at a price.  Despite this, Tara knows she is doing what she loves and has no plans to change her direction.

While Tara is still new to handmade selling, she is happy to offer encouragement to others that want to follow down this path of creativity.  Her advice is to not get discouraged even when it feels like it is too hard; “you have to keep trucking if you want to do something you love.”  She reminds all handmade artists that you have to experiment and put yourself out there in order to find that home run product!  If you do not succeed right away, at least you can say you really tried.

Are you ready to see the fun version of so many children’s childhood friend?  Well, Tara has made the conscience choice to not set up a website, but instead sell her treasures on her Facebook page.  Just message her or comment on one of her albums and she will be happy to discuss the perfect blanket for your little one…or even a big one in need of a smile!

About Kimberly

A life long crafter, I found my passion in painting on glass, especially toasting glasses for brides, as well as chainmaille jewelry in between chasing my two boys to various sports events and clubs. This passion for handmade led my husband and I to start the www.HandmadeArtists.com and our passion for getting other handmade artists seen no matter where they sell led to acquiring It's Better Handmade! My hope is that by working with other creative people more buyers will come to understand the true value of handmade.
